Inventory what you already own
Record each device’s make, model, connection type, operating system and current use. Take note of receipt paper width, label formats and scanner behaviour. USB, network and serial connections can require different configurations. Send this inventory before the demonstration so the provider can identify equipment that needs testing instead of treating every existing device as automatically compatible.
Run a complete counter scenario
Scan a normal barcode, try a damaged label, enter an item manually and print a bill. Check the receipt layout and whether the cash drawer opens only at the intended step. If you sell weighed products, demonstrate the complete weighing and barcode process with the proposed equipment. Confirm whether printer setup differs between browser checkout and the proposed Infinity installation.
Plan for queue time and equipment failure
Ask staff to use the screen layout at the actual counter height and distance. Check that cables, paper changes and network equipment can be reached without interrupting customers. Identify the spare printer or replacement counter you would use during a failure. Record who provides device support and how quickly an alternative can be configured; software support may not include hardware replacement.
Include power, networking and security
Ask a qualified supplier to size backup power for the actual equipment and expected interruption. Keep network and power responsibilities in the implementation plan. Define administrator access and how updates are applied to counter computers. For iPOS, request written compatibility for the specific product, operating system, driver and device combination rather than relying on a generic hardware-ready description.
