Identify the problem before comparing products
If you need to accept cards, start by discussing acquiring and terminal services with the relevant payment provider. If you need barcode billing, stock balances and sales reporting, evaluate retail software. A terminal receipt alone is not a complete inventory system. Likewise, recording a card payment in software does not itself confirm that a bank transaction was approved or settled.
Understand a separate-terminal workflow
Where staff use a terminal separately, the cashier may need to enter the payment amount and record the tender in the retail bill. Ask how errors are detected when the amounts differ. Demonstrate a declined payment, an interrupted transaction and an approved payment followed by a cancelled bill. Clarify which person reconciles terminal records, software totals and the eventual settlement information.
Evaluate integration with exact equipment
If a proposal includes bank terminal integration, identify the supported bank or acquirer, device model, connection and transaction types. Ask who supplies and maintains each part. Demonstrate error recovery and returns with the intended configuration. Do not assume an integration described for one bank or product works with every terminal or every version of the software.
Ask iPOS for a scoped demonstration
Describe the payment methods you accept and the terminal details you already have. Request confirmation of the supported workflow for your iPOS product. Include split payments, refunds, reconciliation and access controls in the demo checklist where required. Agree how staff should act when the terminal response and the software status do not match before the system goes live.
