Apparel and Footwear POS: Size, Colour, Exchanges and Branch Stock

An apparel POS demonstration should follow each size-colour variant through receiving, selling, exchanging and transferring stock. The goal is reliable variant-level availability rather than a product total that hides missing sizes or colours.

Give each sellable variant a clear identity

A shirt style can include several colours and sizes, each with a different quantity. Decide how the catalogue identifies those variants and how labels map to them. Check whether staff can distinguish similar items at speed. Product naming should be consistent enough for receiving and stock counting, not just attractive on a sales receipt. Photographing a style does not replace accurate variant records.

Follow the exchange through stock and money

Apparel customers often exchange a size or colour, sometimes at a different price. Demonstrate the original sale reference, authorization, the returning variant and the outgoing variant. Explain how a price difference is handled and who may approve an exception. A visually simple exchange should still leave an understandable transaction trail and the correct quantities for both variants.

Use branch distribution to solve specific shortages

A chain may have enough of a style overall but the wrong size mix at individual stores. Compare receiving quantities, local demand and stock already in transit before proposing a transfer. Define approval, dispatch and receiving responsibilities. iPOS requirements can include variant management and branch oversight, but the intended reports, rules and automation should be demonstrated in the configuration being quoted.

A practical scenario

One branch holds several pairs of a slow-moving size while another repeatedly misses requests for that size. The manager reviews variant availability, reserves the intended transfer and checks its receipt before treating the quantity as available at the destination. This is more useful than transferring solely from the chain-wide style total.

Questions buyers ask

Are style totals sufficient for footwear stock planning?

Usually not. The distribution of sizes can determine whether a customer can actually buy an available style.

Should I buy software before testing exchanges?

Include your real exchange policy and sample products in the demonstration before accepting the configuration.
